Even if the pilot light keeps going out, you are able to restart it. An interruption in your pilot light could indicate a more significant problem with your furnace.
If you smell gas, never try to relight your pilot light. Instead, leave your residence and make a call to your utility company to have the gas turned off. After that, make a call to an HVAC expert to have the problem identified.
Vents that are closed or blocked
The issue: Blocked or closed vents prevent cool air from your air conditioner from entering your home. Homeowners occasionally purposefully cover their vents in the hopes that their system will chill adjacent rooms more effectively. However, it's never a smart idea to cover your air vents. It may result in a buildup of air in the ductwork and pressure on the heat exchanger, which could lead to leaks and reduce the effectiveness of your air conditioner. The worst-case situation is that the increased pressure could shatter the exchanger, resulting in a carbon monoxide leak that could be fatal.
The solution: Make sure there are no obstructions in the way of ventilation by opening all of your home's vents. By only partially opening other vents, you can increase the amount of air that reaches specific regions. Never completely close them.
When to call a pro: If your air conditioner isn't dispersing cold air properly, call a qualified HVAC technician to inspect your system.
